Packing Up Christmas

With the holidays coming to an end, packing all those decorations up can be daunting. Taking the time to put it away in an organized fashion now will lower your level of stress next year when you pull it all back out.

If you break it down in to small sections or groupings, it can make you feel less overwhelmed. Here are some things to remember while preparing to put it all away.

1. TAKE THE TIME TO PUT IT AWAY RIGHT

This can be the hardest part. If you’re like me, by the time the holidays are over I am ready to put the decorations away. I tend to feel overwhelmed when my house is full of stuff. However, if you have a plan, things will go pretty fast. So, take the time now to lower your stress for next year.

2. PACK LIKE DÉCOR TOGETHER

The simplest thing to do with tree décor is to keep it together in the same container if possible. If you have more than one tree, use different colored containers or use labels to mark your containers. Keep all dishes and table décor together. You can even purchase specific containers for tree ornaments and dishes to protect them from breakage. These tend to cost more than boxes, but will preserve your holiday decorations for much longer.

3. LABEL CONTAINERS

LABEL, LABEL, LABEL! Sorry, but I have to admit this is my favorite part. When you go to pull things out of storage next year and are able to see what is inside quickly, you will be able to get things to the right space quickly. When you take the time to put like things together, your labels will be short and sweet. For example, “main tree décor” or “stockings and misc. décor”.

4. STORE ALL DÉCOR IN THE SAME SPACE

Once you have everything packed up and labeled, now it’s time to store it. I have a space under my stairs that allows me to house most of my Christmas décor together. However, the items that belong on different floors of the house I prefer to store in spaces on those floors. Year after year, I would probably get tired of dragging things up and down stairs.

Ease your stress for next year. Take the time this year to put your holiday décor away in an organized manner. If you follow these 4 simple steps, you will be so happy you took the time to do it right!
